INcubes DemoDay INtake02 at the Toronto Stock Exchange was an exciting event, where INcubes presented it’s second INtake of accelerated Startups. The new companies, Hovr, GameDay, EventHoller, and MyGoodNIght presented to a private INvite only room of Canada’s most influential tech investors, as well as to the public through a live broadcast hosted by ITbusiness.ca.
Key note speaker, Kirk Simpson, founder of Wave Accounting, shared INsight from his experience as a successful entrepreneur.
The startups are already seeing the returns. Two of the companies are in investor negotiations towards their first round of capital for growth, and EventHoller is already close to closing it’s round!

Announcing INcubes DemoDay INtake02 Programme
It’s nearly [IN]cubes Demo Day • INtake 02 Wednesday, September 12, 1pm • INvite Only; at the Toronto Stock Exchange Tower . As INtake 02 grads on our second DemoDay, our 4 Startups are poised to make their presence known globally.
Toronto boasts the most exits of any city in Canada, although it severely lacks support for early-phase internet entrepreneurs. At DemoDay Toronto’s Tech Community looks back at what INcubes has spurred and how Canadian startups fit into global business.
INcubes has successfully brought support for early startup teams in Toronto and to Canada’s business centre in the form of our private INcubator and nimble, agile, and competitive Acceleration Program. While only just in our second INtake, we’ve been listed as among the top accelerators in Canada, and we’re the only of significance servicing early startups in Canada’s finance centre. This DemoDay is the place to be to see Canadian INternet INnovation emerge. This is what we founded INcubes to do.

[IN]tensive Day 08 • [IN]take 01
As INtake 01 approaches completion, INcubes goes out with a BANG for the last INtensive Day of our first INtake.

Tim Ryan, founder and CEO of Vestiigo.com, spoke to our startups IN a talk titled “What You Should Be Spending Your Time On”. Being a successful entrepreneur, Tim was able to give sound advice on how to accomplish goals, and waste as little time as possible.

Freshbooks’ Saul Colt gave an exceptional talk, “Getting Noticed From the Start”. He INspired the audience by sharing many of his creative and non-traditional marketing methods that are sure to get a company noticed. His formula, make them think, laugh and/or cry, is one to remember.

Grant Ritchie, CEO of Locationary.com, a very successful startup, was our next mentor IN. Grant’s session, “Wining and Dining the INvestors you Want”, explained the blunt realities and struggles a startup experiences when working towards gaining capital. He provided specific and detailed tips on the resources and INvestors available to Toronto startups.

INoffice INformal INvestor Pitches continued this week, with a new panel of INvestors to give their opinions and suggestions. Daniel Klass from Klass Capital and Round 13 Capital’s Scott Pelton, listened to the INcubes startups’ pitch decks and offered valuable feedback for INcubes Demo Day, on February 28, 2012.

As an added treat, the following morning, the dedicated and always helpful Gerard Buckley, was IN to speak on “Accessing Capital From an Angel Network”, and to add some value to the startup pitch decks.

Thank you to all Mentors and INvestors who participated IN our very successful and very INformative INtensive Days!

Yahoo News: Toronto Incubator INcubes Embraces Tech Mavericks
Local start up incubator looks to turn Canadian tech pioneers into international sensations.
(PRWEB) January 13, 2012
INcubes offers a customized and condensed curriculum for start ups, with the goal on enriching each entrepreneur with the integral survival and growth skills necessary to take their business through funding to market.
“Unlike many other incubators, our program isn’t solely focused on acceleration. Instead, it’s about providing each start up with exactly what they need for success. As a privately run organization, we don’t have to conform to any ‘mold’ required by institutionalized or academic incubators.” said A. Traviss Corry, Director of Business Development at INcubes.
The team has already received pitches from businesses across Canada. After screening the initial submissions, they managed to narrow it down to forty finalists, including an open platform for cities, governments and NGOs, and a means to revolutionize digital receipts.
“The core concept of our business is to embrace the tech maverick. They have ideas that aren’t simple or easy, but foster change and opportunity for people all around the world. As the test market capital of North America, there’s no better city than Toronto to grow these thought-leaders and innovations,” said Ben Zlotnick, founder of INcubes.
INcubes is currently accepting applications for Startup INtake 02 Spring 2012. For details, visithttp://incubes.ca/for_startups.

[IN]credible Pitch Practice
INcubes Mentor and Angel INvestor, Mark Dowds rounded up his organization, Band Of Coders to watch the INcubes Startups Pitch Practice and provide unleashed cutting critiques. It was a real life Dragon’s Den situation.

Jeremy Wright and Terry Smith of 23 Press give their Pitch

2.5’s Jeff Walter takes the floor
INcubes Startup founders, who for many have had little experience pitching to such a distinguished audience, received valuable feedback on to communicate more effectively. Tough love was given, and was received very humbly by our Startups, who will surely apply this valuable criticism.

Mark Gelman, Anatoly Dobrovinsky and Anton Belov of Gossipz
Public speaking is difficult in any case, but imagine needing to explain something as sophisticated and complex as a tech business plan in under 5 minutes. Thank you Mark Dowds and Band Of Coders for this valuable night… as well as the wine, beers and cheers! @MarkDowds
