[IN]tensive Day 08 • [IN]take 01

As INtake 01 approaches completion, INcubes goes out with a BANG for the last INtensive Day of our first INtake.

Tim Ryan, founder and CEO of Vestiigo.com, spoke to our startups IN a talk titled  “What You Should Be Spending Your Time On”.  Being a successful entrepreneur, Tim was able to give sound advice on how to  accomplish goals, and waste as little time as possible.

Freshbooks’ Saul Colt gave an exceptional talk, “Getting Noticed From the Start”. He INspired the audience by sharing many of his creative and non-traditional marketing methods that are sure to get a company noticed.  His formula, make them think, laugh and/or cry, is one to remember.

Grant Ritchie, CEO of Locationary.com, a very successful startup, was our next mentor IN. Grant’s session, “Wining and Dining the INvestors you Want”, explained the blunt realities and struggles a startup experiences when working towards gaining capital.  He provided specific and detailed tips on the resources and INvestors available to Toronto startups.

INoffice INformal INvestor Pitches continued this week, with a new panel of INvestors to give their opinions and suggestions. Daniel Klass from Klass Capital and Round 13 Capital’s Scott Pelton, listened to the INcubes startups’ pitch decks and offered valuable feedback for INcubes Demo Day, on February 28, 2012.

As an added treat, the following morning, the dedicated and always helpful Gerard Buckley, was IN to speak on “Accessing Capital From an Angel Network”, and to add some value to the startup pitch decks.

Thank you to all Mentors and INvestors who participated IN our very successful and very INformative INtensive Days!

As the pace speeds up, there is just not enough time in an INtensive Day.  INcubes had a busy week, with not only one INtensive Day, but two.  The theme of the day was, INsider INformation From The Other Side Of The Table; an INvestors perspective on what INcubes Startups should present in their pitches.

Gerard Buckley’s (Jaguar Capital) his weekly session brought us, Pros and Cons of Accessing VC too Early.

Jared Gordon and Michael Frankel from MaRs came IN to speak to our start-ups on INvestment Managing for Your Startup and show the importance of knowing your company’s INvestment cycle.

[IN]tensive Day 02 - INtake 01

Last week’s INtensive Day was exciting at [IN]cubes, with visits from 4 impressive industry professionals, who advised our startups on valuable topics.

Gerard Buckley came [IN] for his first of many sessions at [IN]cubes.  The session began with some tasty breakfast, elevator pitch practices, before his talk: Bootstrapping Your Startup.  Gerard’s wealth of financial knowledge is enriching.

We had an improptu visit from one of our mentors, Nicholas Heller - Google Europe’s Head of New Business Development.  He sat down with our startups and provided them with valuable tips and feedback. We’re lucky to have a mentor who is such a big player [IN] Europe. Nicholas is based out of Zürich, Switzerland with strong ties to his home town, Toronto.

Round discussion, with INcubes Mentor Nicholas Heller, Anton Belov, A. Traviss Corry, Ben Zlotnick, Jeremy Campbell, Vern Walter, and Garin Kilpatrick.

In the afternoon we had an inspiring talk from our mentor George Marsland - Building a Toolkit for Post INcubation.  His talk started with his encouraging our startups to give thought to their own “integrity” and broke the founders out of their technical mindsets for a moment to get back to giving thought to the ethos they are creating as they lead their organizations toward growth and are laying the foundations of their future corporate culture. Topics like, how to create a “horizon map” and how to set up “listening posts” to “funnel” ongoing innovation into your organization.

George Marsland, an inspirational speaker on valuable topics to founders.

Malgosia Green was our final mentor of the day. Her extensive background in product management, made her the perfect mentor to come [IN] and speak on Planning Product Management for Your Startup. Her stories of user interface development, related to the success of her own business, gave our startups ideas for their own ventures.

Malgosia Green speaking on the product development and management within her own company, Satvika.

Thanks to all our Mentors who made or second [IN]tensive Day a great success!

INoffice Biz Dev Mentor A. Traviss Corry and INcubes Mentor George Marsland, discuss the INcubes curriculum.
